practical route to expansion

What are you looking to achieve?

  • Hire New Talent
  • Enter a new market
  • Build a sales presence
  • Establish an operational centre
  • Relocate employees
  • Test the market
  • Build a regional HQ
  • Which sector: Sales, Engineering, Customer Success, Finance, Operations, Leadership.
  • How many new employees do you need: 1-5, 6-20, 20-plus
  • When do you need them in country?

Once we have established your answers to these questions we will move on to our Expansion Health Score. This will be calculated based on the following indicators:

  • Talent – availability, skills, salary levels, competition.
  • Market – Size, relevant customer base, strategic relevance
  • Employment Cost – salary levels, taxes, benefits and EOR costs.
  • Compliance – complexity, employment law, benefits, regulatory burden, termination.
  • Operational – Time zone, language, infrastructure, business environment
  • Strategic fit – regional hub potential, proximity to customers, future entity potential, scalability.

We recently had a SAAS company in USA with 80 employees looking to hire 10 engineers and 5 salespeople somewhere in Europe in the next 12 months.

We shortlisted countries based on the criteria that they had given us as:

  • Poland – 92/100 easy to find talent, lower cost base
  • Portugal – 88/100 strong engineering talent, lower salary costs
  • Netherlands – 85/100 Best if strategic European presence is more important than cost overall.
  • Spain – 83/100 good talent pool, attractive distribution potential.

We also considered Germany but concluded that, given the business’ current hiring profile, the higher employment costs and added complexity would not offer sufficient benefit at this stage.
